Divisive Anxiety
Have you heard the term “secular?” Secular is defined as: attitudes, activities, or other things that have no spiritual basis. This definition will be important for this devotion. Thoughts outlined below are from A.W. Tozer’s book “Prayer.”
When we lose our peace… we struggle to find purpose in life. A common obstacle in Christian life (including prayer) is losing our peace in God. How does this occur? A.W. Tozer points out that we live a life divided between sacred and secular.
When we divide ourselves between our Christian life and our secular life, it creates problems. With division, we live away from god as we are “one kind of person” on Sunday or when we are at church. Then a “completely different person” when we are outside of church. Secular acts: working, hobbies, hanging out, chores, or doing school. We find ourselves walking a tight rope between two lives and it steals our peace.
Regular prayer, conversation with God, keeps our lives on track and our focus on the truth… there is no sacred or secular, just Jesus! This must be done with intentionality. Intentional prayer and spiritual growth increases our peace and relationship with God. Work, for the glory of God! Enjoy hobbies, for the glory of God! Hangout with friends, for the glory of God! Do chores, do school, do. everything. for. the. glory. of. God!
Ask yourself: is there division between secular and sacred in your life?
Pray to God to help you to focus on Jesus and his perfect example of living a non-divided life.
